Ludhiana: Inaugurating free Wi-Fi facility at main Sarabha Nagar market on Saturday, MC authorities said that they would try to cover other markets in the city soon. The services are provided by startup Free Wi-Fi Private limited at zero cost to municipality or state government. Free Wi-Fi is a start up based out of Indore and have a unique TRAI complaint concept. Free Wi-Fi is providing services at ~15 places in Indore including the biggest shopping malls and Indore airport.
Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria said Ludhiana is the first city in the state which has come up with free Wi-Fi facility for residents. And after getting tremendous response of people who have gathered at the spot, he said the department will take this facility to various other markets of the city in the future.
MC additional commissioner Ghanshyam Thori, in-charge of smart city project, said this facility would take us closure to the target of converting Ludhiana into a smart city. He said they had already started free Wi-Fi facility at MC Zone A office, that can be availed for 30 minutes. The services of Free Wi-Fi have no time limitation.
A resident Jupinder Singh of Jamalpur area who was present in the market area said it is a good initiative and the MC should provide this facility at other markets too as soon as possible.
Wi-Fi facility with the name of ‘I m Free Wi-Fi’ will be available in the market. The residents will have to sign up before they get to surf and one-time password will be sent on mobile phones of users for authentication without which no one will be able to sign up. After that a user ID and password will be provided to the residents and they can use the facility by filling up the same.
